Former Trinidadian international cricketer and one of the best batsman there’s been in history, Brian has collected an array of cricketing records throughout his successful career. Lara achieved his best known record at Edgbaston in 1994 with 501 not out for Warwickshire against Durham which got him the highest individual score in first-class cricket. This was not only a record but also the only quintuple hundred in first-class cricket history.
Holding the test record for the highest number of runs in a single over, Brian completely changed the game of cricket, taking the standards to a whole new level. He became the only batsman to score a century, a double century, a triple century, a quadruple century and a quintuple century.
Wisden rated Brian’s phenomenal performance, against Australia in 1999, the second best batting performance in history following Sir Donald Bradman in The Ashes Test Match of 1937. Brian is widely recognised as the best and this was highlighted when the greatest test match bowler, Muttiah Muralitharan, named Lara as his toughest opponent out of all the batsmen in the world.
Not only has Lara beat a huge number of records but also won many awards throughout his career in 1994 and 1995 he was awarded the Wisden Leading Cricketer in the World award. Lara was also honoured with the prestigious BBC Overseas Sports Personality of the Year making him one of only three cricketers to ever have received this.
On 27 November 2007 was when Brian Lara was appointed an honorary member of the Order of Australia. In 2012 Brian was inducted into the ICC’s Hall of Fame before coming the 31st West Indian to receive Honorary Life Membership of the MCC in 2013. The Brian Lara Stadium was opened in Trinidad in 2017 to honour Brian and his amazing career.
Being one of the most successful batsmen in the world Brian is no stranger to hard work and determination, he was prepared to put in the work to get the results and he touches on this within his talks. Brian also covers how he overcame adversity to get to where he is today and what it takes to succeed and achieve your goals.
