David Gower is the former captain of the English cricket team, now retired, Gower spends a lot of his time as a commentator on Sky Sports. During his time as a cricketer, Gower was one of the highest-scoring players for England and is known for being one of the best batsmen of his era. He played a total of 117 test matches for England in which he scored 8,231 runs scoring 18 centuries. He also featured in 114 One Day Internationals and scored 3,170 runs including 7 centuries. Gower spent the majority of his domestic career at Leicestershire where he enjoyed a 14 year stint with the club, he also played for Hampshire for 3 years. During his domestic career, Gower scored 53 First Class centuries and 26,339 runs in 448 matches, he also scored 12,255 runs in 430 List A games, this included an impressive 19 centuries.
He made his debut for Leicestershire in 1975 against Lancashire, he scored his first century a year later in his proper breakthrough season. Gower scored over 1,000 runs in a domestic season for the first time in his career in the 1977-78 season, this included two centuries, five fifties and a well deserved call up to the international squad. After a stint with England, Gower made his comeback in domestic cricket by scoring a truly spectacular 200*, this season saw him awarded the Wisden Cricketer of the Year. Gower continued to pile on the runs in the domestic stage surpassing 1,000 runs for the season on a number of occasions.
Gower played his first Ashes against Australia in 1978, he scored a century in the series in the test match at Perth. Gower played in a number of test series and in particular, Ashes series, Gower scored a number of centuries that were filled with elegant shots and fantastic timing. Gower enjoyed an extremely successful career in which he won a number of awards, scored an abundance of runs and enjoyed winning lots of series with England both at home and overseas. Since retiring, Gower has become a commentator, he mainly works with Sky Sports. Gower has fantastic knowledge of the sport but is also a fantastic speaker, his time as a commentator has worked perfectly for his time as a cricket speaker.
