An elegant yet destructive wicketkeeper-batsman, Steven Davies is, without doubt, one of the most feared and dominant players in the English game. A former England player that has excelled throughout his career, Davies has also been somewhat of a trailblazer having become the first international cricketer to announce that he was gay, a revelation he made during an interview with The Daily Telegraph.
As a youth player, Davies began playing for Worcestershire in 2001 and made appearances internationally at the Under-19 World Cup in Bangladesh. He went on to make his senior debut for Worcestershire in 2004 and went on to be awarded the NBC Denis Compton Award. In his time there, Steven achieved a call-up to the England senior squad for the first time in 2006 for the squad that would go on to tour Bangladesh in 2007 going on to make his Twenty20 International debut against the West Indies in 2009.
Never one to rest on his laurels, in 2009, Davies was ready for a new challenge which resulted in a move from Worcestershire to Surrey where he was given the responsibility and opportunity of batting in the top order and in doing so reigniting his International aspirations. Steven went on to leave Surrey for Somerset at the end of 2016, the best memory of his farewell season was an impeccable century, against Yorkshire in the Royal London Cup semi-final at Headingly, to take Surrey to their second successive Lord's final. Having gone on to be an integral member of the squad and be a major part of the club’s transformation, Davies' maiden century for his new county aptly came against his former club, Surrey.
A charismatic and infectious character that is immensely talented, Davies is not only a consummate professional but also a true gentleman. Able to share a host of entertaining and insightful tales and anecdotes from his career within the game, Davies is also well placed to discuss diversity, inclusion and LGBT, a topic close to his heart. The superb cricketer and first openly gay International cricketer has inspired many around the world to be themselves and is now available to hire as a speaker for your next event through the Champions Speakers agency.
