Stephanie Zambra is a retired Irish footballer who has spent her years impressing the women’s football scene with her exceptional striking ability. Initially gaining international renown for her viral goal for Peamount United in 2013, she quickly became an icon within the sport. Stephanie has represented the Republic of Ireland over 50 times, and even had the opportunity to play in integral games across the UEFA Women’s Euros and the FIFA World Cup qualifiers. Whether she was playing for Ireland, England, France, Italy, or the USA, Stephanie consistently pulled off impressive feats. Most notably, her performances at Peamount United and Shamrock Rovers stand out as iconic moments in women’s football.
Initially, Stephanie began her football career in Ireland. Under the guidance of Peamount United, she soon made a name for herself, and quickly became known as a prolific goal scorer. This would all come to a head when she won the Women’s National League Golden Boot twice in a row. However, what truly catapulted Stephanie into the public eye was her incredible goal against Wexford Youths. Pulling off a staggeringly sensational score right at the end of the match, Stephanie earned herself the attention of clubs across the world. Soon enough, she was contacted by ASPTT Albi, and later by Houston Dash.
Unfortunately, it was far from smooth sailing for Stephanie. Between injuries and contract complexities, she faced a multitude of challenges that tried to interfere with her love for the sport. Thanks to her exceptional striking ability, however, she was able to maintain her excellent reputation within the women’s football scene. When she wasn’t on the pitch, audiences would wonder why. Truly, she’d earned her place among the greats. This continued through to her tenure with Sunderland and Florentia, before she eventually returned to Ireland to rejoin Peamount United. Her career officially came full circle when she ended her playing career with Shamrock Rovers in 2024.
Now, Stephanie has carved out a place for herself in sports media, primarily as a Football Analyst and Commentator for RTÉ. Though she may have retired from football, her spark still shines through her coverage of major FIFA and UEFA Championships, in addition to her inspirational talks. Having faced adversity throughout her career, Stephanie has become the perfect person to turn to for guidance. Stephanie specialises in advocating for the improvement of conditions for female footballers, building mental resilience, and speaking on the exciting growth of women’s football.
