Shaun Wane is the head coach for England Rugby League, Founder of Wane Group Limited and leadership and business mentor. A former professional rugby player who has had to overcome many challenges in his personal life and professional career, Shaun draws on his past experiences to give speeches on mental resilience, leadership, performing under pressure and motivation.
Shaun began his professional rugby career at the age of 15, signed to Wigan RLFC, he applied his aggression, physical strength, and competitive nature to become an integral part of the team. He played 149 matches for Wigan, helping his team win on several occasions including in the 1985 Lancashire County Cup Final, 1986-87 season at old Trafford and 1986-87 Championship season.
Awarded man of the match in the 1987 World Cup Challenge, Shaun proceeded to play for Wigan until 1990, joining Leeds for three seasons, then Working Town for a season before retiring in 1994. Throughout his professional rugby career, Shaun has held multiple positions, including prop, second-row, and loose forwards. He has also won caps for Great Britain in 1984 and 1985 against France and New Zealand respectively.
Winning three Super League Grand Finals as the Head coach of Wigan Warriors, Shaun has achieved legendary status and has been recognised as one of the most successful Super League coaches in history. Awarded Super League coach of the year in 2018, Shaun went on to coach at Scotland Rugby Union as a high-performance coach.
Outside his remarkable rugby career, Shaun has gained experience in business as a key account manager, in asset finance and as a leader in the construction industry.
