Twice the World Heavyweight Champion, Shannon Briggs is one of the best recognised boxers on the international scene. Known for his legendary powerful punch, and impressive knock out to win ratio, Briggs is a boxer dominating the sport. Whilst his illustrious success is in part down to his intimidating stature, Briggs credits much of his victories to honing qualities like: mental resilience, determination and self discipline. Often recognised as the keys to success, as an after dinner or sports speaker, Briggs can enlighten his audiences with first hand experience and give them implementable techniques to replicate triumph in their own lives, no matter their ambition.
The highlight of any boxer’s career is winning a prestigious world title, signifying the highest level of achievement reached in the sport as an individual, Briggs reached this milestone on two occasions. In 1997, Briggs faced George Foreman, leaving the fight reigning supreme as the Lineal Heavyweight Champion, a feat he later repeated in 2006 when he secured the World Boxing Organisation Heavyweight Champion through a legendary knock out. From a total of 68 professional fights, Briggs came out on top in 60, with a formidable knockout to win ratio of 88.3% proving his position as a powerful competitor.
Inspired by an encounter as a teen with the legendary Mike Tyson, Briggs, who grew up in New York, started his training at Jimmy O’Pharrow’s Starrett City Boxing Club. An amateur career as impressive as his professional career, Briggs was the United States Amateur Champion 1992, having already secured New York City Golden Gloves champions and New York State champion. Continually to show his prominence as a heavyweight, Briggs competed in the US Olympic Festival 1991 and attended the Olympic trials before being ranked third nationally at the end of 1991.
Outside of boxing, Briggs’ high profile public image has allowed him to pursue other ventures, predominantly acting, which he made his debut in 1995. Often the focus of documentaries, Briggs honed his talents as an on screen personality, before moving into movies, with some of his credits to date including: Bad Boys 2, Three Days in Vegas and The Wackness. A versatile figure, he has also released a line of clothing appeal, developing his business acumen through his recognisable brand. A world class competitive boxer, with a diverse media platform, Shannon Briggs is the ideal sportsman to give an entertaining after dinner talk.
