Rupert Matthews

Rupert Matthews is known as one of the most articulate and pragmatic of the Members of the European Parliament involved in the Brexit process. Rather than "hunting unicorns" he is seeking to persuade his colleagues in the European Parliament to seek pragmatic solutions that will deliver on the result of the 2016 referendum while as smooth a transition as possible to the new realities of life outside the European Union.

Rupert Matthews is the Conservative Member of Parliament for the East Midlands. He is the Conservative Spokesman for Energy in the European Parliament, and sits on the ITRE and Cult Committees. Rupert has most recently been selected to be Conservative candidate for the position of Police and Crime Commissioner for Leicestershire and Rutland, ahead of the 2020 May elections.

Rupert is Chairman of Projekt Hansa, an international organisation that works to bring together business leaders and politicians across northern Europe. Projekt Hansa aims to find policy solutions to the problems encountered by businesses in the region, both inside and outside the EU. Before becoming an MEP, Rupert was a freelance historian. He has written over 100 books and has acted as historical consultant to Hollywood movies and UK television productions. Rupert can give speeches on historical subjects as well as covering politics and trade.
