Richard Higgins is an independent environmental consultant who developed the HH-2 Waste Management and Horticultural System after studying the work of Sir Albert Howard. As the director of Good Gardeners International Charity, Richard has been called upon to support various environmental and natural disasters. Most notably, Richard offered his services after the devastating Haiti Earthquake of 2010, providing Port-Au-Prince with the Howard-Higgins remediation system and delivering a guided tour for NGO's in Canape Vert. In 2019, Richard and the Good Gardeners International Charity were offered a four-year contract with Save the Children International. Event organisers frequently hire Richard for his real-world knowledge, innovative thinking and insights on environmentally responsible farming.
Richard’s in-depth research on fungi and bacteria led to the creation of HH-2 equipment, a ground-breaking way to optimise colonisation environments for plants and deliver higher nutrients. The equipment was a huge step forward in farming and opened up new possibilities for farmers, growers, schools, villages and wider communities to grow pest and disease-free crops without the need for harmful chemicals. Richard often discusses these issues on BBC Radio 4’s Farming Today, highlighting how waste can be used as fertiliser to reduce chemical use, landfill waste and the need for heavy machinery. Richard is currently in the process of developing the latest prototype of HH-2 equipment, turning organic waste into fertiliser within just 90 days. Richard has travelled across the world delivering presentations to university scientists, including at the Stockholm Environmental Institute in Stockholm, Warwick University and Harper Adams University.
Richard's book, The Lost Science of Organic Cultivation, expands on his organic farming ideas further, suggesting increased nutrients and vitamins in organic agriculture may resolve chronic diseases such as diabetes and obesity. In 2020, Richard became a LEAF advisor and consultant member, providing expert guidance on sustainable farming. In 2021, Richard was invited by Dorset Biosolutions to present his ideas on the Springfield Agri stand at the United Nations Climate Change Conference. Richard recently appeared on the Richard Vobes Podcast, sharing insights from his book and was interviewed by Patrick Holden on how waste can be used in agriculture.
