Ranjay Gulati is the Paul R. Lawrence MBA Class of 1942 Professor of Business Administration at the Harvard Business School. One of the foremost experts in the area of leadership strategy and organisational growth, Ranjay is highly sought after by some of the leading global organisations. He regularly runs small-group workshops to help high-performing leadership teams enhance their organisation’s growth trajectory and is also a very articulate speaker who combines his profound academic knowledge with his latest research to deliver impactful presentations for prominent organisations including Unilever, Honda, IBM, Microsoft, KPMG, and Ford to name a few.
From 1980 to 1993, Ranjay spent over a decade building his academic knowledge at some of the leading academic institutions in the world. He began his journey at St Stephen’s College, Delhi and graduated with a BA in Economics. Ranjay then went on exchange to the US to earn a BS in Computer Science from the University of Washington State. This was followed by an MS in Management from MIT Sloan School of Management, concluding with a PhD in Organisational Behaviour from Harvard University. Soon after, he landed a teaching position at the infamous Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management as a Professor of Management and Organisations, before accepting his present role as a Professor of Business Administration at Harvard Business School.
A truly distinguished academic and an authority in his field of Management, Ranjay formerly chaired the flagship Advanced Management Program at Harvard and was ranked by ISI-Incite in the top ten most cited academics in the field of economics and business. This was endorsed by renowned publications including The Economist, Financial Times and the Economist Intelligence Unit. Moreover, his first-class academic research has been featured in some of the most prestigious academic journals such as the Harvard Business Review, in addition to the Wall Street Journal, Forbes and the Financial Times.
Furthermore, Ranjay has published seven books, the most recent being Deep Purpose: The Heart and Soul of High-Performance Companies. It is important to note that Ranjay takes a different position from classical scholars of management in that he argues that leaders need to cultivate courage to induce winning mindsets, instead of delving into their motivational and inspirational qualities as other scholars do. Ranjay offers the latest and most pioneering research in his speaking engagements to deliver a masterclass on leadership strategy and organisational growth.
