Computer scientist and inventor, Pranav Mistry, is the Global Senior Vice President of Research at Samsung and the Head of Think Tank Team. Best known for inventing the wearable device, SixthSense, and for his work on the Samsung Galaxy Gear and Project Beyond. Pranav has an impressive resume to boast, having worked with some of the most well recognised brands in the world. For a start, he was a UX Researcher at Microsoft for a number of years, as well as working for Google, CMU, NASA, UNESCO, Japan Science & Technology. It was in 2012 that Pranav joined Samsung as the new Director of Research. A former MIT's Media Lab student, Pranav studied Fluid Interfaces before graduating with a PhD.
Working with lab director Pattie Maes, they created some of the most entertaining and thought-provoking interfaces the world has ever seen. With a passion for bringing the digital and real world together, it was at the MIT lab that Pranav developed the legendary SixthSense, which has since become so successful that it is now open sourced. Furthermore, he also invented Mouseless, an invisible computer mouse, Sparsh, a way to copy and paste data between digital devices, Quickies, intelligent sticky notes, and Blinkbot, a gaze and blink controlled robot, as well as many more.
A truly impressive individual, Pranav has been recognised and awarded for his work on a number of occasions. He was honoured by the World Economic Forum, naming him as one of the Young Global Leaders in 2013, and was given the Young Alumnus Award in 2012 by IIT Bombay. Pranav was also named in CREATIVITY 50’s list of the 50 Most Creative People of the Year and won Popular Science’s Invention of the Year award in 2009.
