Patrick Regan OBE is an activist, mental health campaigner and the Founder XLP and Kintsugi Hope - two award winning children’s charities. Recently winning CEO of the Year 2023 for Mental Health Training, Patrick was also appointed OBE for his Services to Young People and is an Honorary Fellow of the South Bank University for his contribution to Justice and Wellbeing. This 7x published author is a confident, passionate speaker on mental health, the steps to wellbeing, resilience and developing a social conscience making him the perfect option for any event or occasion.
Patrick has always been a caring and giving person, the inspiration for his charitable work came from a trip to London on a two-week project working with homeless people when he was just 16. The harsh conditions and reality of the situation inspired him to become a social justice worker leading to him becoming a church youth worker attempting to live out his faith working with young people. In 1996, Patrick witnessed a stabbing in a school playground, which motivated him to found the charity XLP - a schools and community charity that he went on to run for an incredible 22 years. Throughout his years as a charity worker, Patrick has witnessed many horrific things in some of the poorest and most violent countries in the world, from leading a peace march in Jamaica to mediating a meeting between gang leaders, Patrick has a plethora of incredible stories and experiences to draw from during his talks.
After his success with the children’s charity XLP, in 2018 Patrick founded a second charity with his wife focusing on mental health and helping others improve their emotional wellbeing. He currently serves as Director of Brighter Days. Drawing from his years as a church pastor, Patrick has partnered with churches across the country to set up wellbeing groups. In his quest to help all types of people with their mental health struggles, Kintsugi Hope also operates within homeless communities, schools, and universities. Having dealt with feelings of depression and anxiety, Patrick understands the importance of opening up and sharing your feelings and his powerful talks and charity work help people recognise they aren’t alone in their struggles.
As a speaker, Patrick is highly captivating, drawing upon his vast wisdom from a fascinating life with a multitude of interesting, unique stories. He is very passionate about tackling mental health and this enthusiasm comes out during his talks. In his speeches, the seven-time published author discusses the topics form his books, most recent of which is entitled ‘Brighter Days: 12 steps to strengthening your wellbeing’ which is full of practical tips for investing in emotional, mental, physical, and spiritual health. His other books including ‘Fighting chance’ which focuses on addressing poverty and educational failure as well as ‘When Faith Gets Shaken’ and ‘Bouncing Forwards’ which draw upon his lived experiences including his personal battle with mental health following extensive limb reconstructive surgery.
