Olav Spahl

Olav Spahl is a highly knowledgeable sports manager, who has been a member of the German Olympic Committee (Deutscher Olympischer Sportbund). Succeeding Eddy De Smedt as the Director of Elite Sport of The Belgian Olympic and Interfederal Committee, Olav is passionate about improving the visions and strategies of the BOIC elite sporting stars. Having been a member of the German delegation for PyeongChang, Sochi, Rio and London Olympic Games, Olav is a leading authority on the Olympics and is a great choice when looking for an Olympics speaker for events.

Beginning his sports management career in 2001, Olav was the Youth Education Officer for the German Swimming Association. Here he managed the youth members of the team, honing his expertise in sports management. He later progressed to become the Assistant to the Head Coach/ Sports Director of the German Swimming Association, appointed to the role in 2005. In 2007, he was appointed to his role in the German Olympic Committee, otherwise known as the Deutscher Olympischer Sportbund and DOSB. During his time with the DOSB, Olav was responsible for Olympic training centres, health management, science management, youth athlete management and anti-doping.

In 2018, Olav joined The Belgian Olympic and Interfederal Committee, working as a High-Level Sports Director. He later went on to succeed Eddy De Smedt as the Director of Elite Sport for DOIC and today continues his work with the association in determining the visions and strategies used by the top athletes at the DOIC. Highly passionate about sport, Olav continually demonstrates his sound knowledge of different angles of sport and the Olympics. Having also worked with both summer and winter Olympians, Olav is knowledgeable in adapting athletes to different climates and scenarios.
