Nicky Clarke’s impressive hairdressing career spans over 40 years, during which he has styled A-list icons such as David Bowie, Christian Bale and even former Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher. Known for his innovative hairstyling techniques, Nicky has become a trusted voice within the industry and has launched several successful haircare products as well as his popular book ‘Hair Power’. As a speaker, Nicky often talks at trade seminars and industry events like Salon International, sharing inspirational insights on creativity, entrepreneurship and staying relevant in a fast-paced environment.
Having completed his apprenticeship in an impressive 10 months rather than the usual three years, Nicky began his professional career at the House of Leonard salon in 1974. Quickly establishing himself as a talented stylist, Nicky was recruited to join John Frieda in 1976. In this same year, at just 18 years old, Nicky would be commissioned by Vogue Magazine to do a 6-page spread. Building on this success, Nicky opened his flagship salon in Mayfair, London and launched his haircare line Hairomatherapy. Nicky launched his Hairwise collection in Tesco in 2015 and expanded his AirStyle Pro Dryer into the U.S. market in 2024. Away from his entrepreneurial projects, Nicky makes TV appearances, previously being the resident hairdresser on This Morning with Richard Madeley and Judy Finnigan and as a QVC contributor. He also acted in Absolutely Fabulous and Crocodile Shoes.
For his pivotal role in hairdressing history, Nicky has received several awards. He won the prestigious Session Hairdresser of the Year twice in 1988 and 1989. Nicky was also named the British Hairdresser of the Year, London Hairdresser of the Year three times and British Fellowship of the Year. For his incredible impact, Nicky was honoured with an OBE in 2008 and received the Outstanding Contribution to London Style Award in 2014. In recognition of his commitment to sustainability, Nicky’s hair product line became the first to be formally acknowledged by Marie Curie Magazine for using 100% plastic-free packaging.
Nicky Clarke has worked with some of the most well-known names in TV, music, politics and beyond. Despite early success, Nicky has continually pushed the boundaries to remain a leading stylist. From winning Image of the Year to being featured in Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar and Tatler, Nicky has the industry credentials to make his talks on fashion, branding and entrepreneurial success worthwhile for any audience.
