After quitting her corporate job, Mwayi became the Founder of In House-Interiors – an endeavour that aimed to create sustainable, green interiors. A few years later, she launched Planet Green Africa to combat the common ill effects cooking with harmful fuels had on women’s health and the environment in Malawi. Having seen her mother do this for years, Mwayi’s mission was to ensure that future generations did not have to rely on methods that contributed to the demise of our environment. Her work has drastically benefitted low-income households, giving them a better quality of life.

Few people can claim to have won the number of accolades as Mwayi has in her illustrious career. She was included in the 2017 Forbes Africa 30 Under 30 list and her organisation was featured in World Youth Forum’s 100 Top Start-Ups list. In addition to being a Mandela Washington Fellow, Mwayi is also the recipient of the Obama Foundation African Leader Award – which commends emerging leaders who have influenced and inspired innovation and ethical change. She has also been nominated for The Waislitz Global Citizen Award in 2022.

A seasoned keynote speaker, Mwayi has been invited to speak at numerous events over the years, most notably the Youth in Development Virtual Bootcamp and Fellowship program and to deliver the Closing Plenary at the Clean Cooking Forum 2022.
