Michael Rada

Michael Rada is an entrepreneur and sustainability advocate. He is the founder of Industry 5.0, a human-centric industrial evolution focused on systematic waste prevention and environmental responsibility. He now also engages in speaking engagements, educating audiences on the integration of human intelligence in industrial processes. 

Michael started out as a steel factory worker. During this time, he worked in many different positions, shaping his practical understanding of industry operations and instilled a lifelong commitment to hands-on problem solving. Michael's career saw him reach senior management levels in logistics across Europe. During his time overseeing large-scale supply chains and ensuring efficient resource utilisation at a large Japanese corporation, Michael observed that the system was generating vast amounts of unnecessary waste. In 2013, he formulated the concept of “Industrial Upcycling”. His concept is focused on repurposing existing resources without degrading their value and preventing waste before it is created. From here, he launched the concept of INDUSTRY 5.0, a human-centric industrial evolution, aiming to put people back at the center of industrial processes and encouraging industries to operate with long-term environmental and social responsibility. Industry 5.0 offers a more conscious and sustainable pathway for industrial growth. The aim is for INDUSTRY 5.0 to be integrated into the strategic development plans by the government. The interest aim for INDUSTRY 5.0 was already announced by Jaguar Land Rover, Airbus, BOSCH, and Nokia. He is also the founder of IBCSD LAB Ltd., a company dedicated to build a waste-less world.

Michael’s efforts have led to the prevention of over one million tonnes of waste, showcasing the tangible impact of his methodologies on global sustainability efforts. His influence extends internationally, with INDUSTRY 5.0 being integrated into various strategic plans and business strategies across multiple countries. Industry 5.0 has been named one of the top ten industrial trends of the decade as well as leading industrial trend of a century. In 2024, Michael’s company IBCSD, was honoured with the “Business Excellence Award”, acknowledging the company’s contributions to promoting sustainable industrial practices and waste prevention methodologies.
