Michael Akadiri is a stand-up comedian and junior doctor whose rare blend of medical insight and sharp observational humour has made him one of the most engaging voices in British comedy. Winner of the Komedia New Comedy Award and the Comedian of Medicine Award at the Haags Comedy Festival, Michael has earned acclaim from Chortle and The Guardian. His ability to blend professional experience with relatable, witty storytelling makes him a natural choice for corporate events, award ceremonies and health panel discussions.
Before his comedy career took flight, Michael trained in medicine, studying at the University of Nottingham. His early years in the NHS shaped much of his grounded and compassionate approach to both comedy and public speaking. He completed rotations as a Foundation Doctor across paediatrics, geriatrics, psychiatry, emergency medicine, trauma and ENT, gaining a front-line understanding of healthcare’s human side. Later, as a Locum Senior House Officer in General Surgery, and subsequently an Education Academy Fellow for Surgery at Barts Health NHS Trust, he balanced clinical work with teaching. He led simulation training sessions for medical students and doctors, helping retrain NHS staff during the pandemic - experiences that continue to inform his thoughtful, often humorous reflections on medicine and society.
Michael’s professional achievements are both varied and impressive. He reached the London finals of the BBC New Comedy Awards and was nominated for the NextUp Biggest Award in Comedy following the success of his sell-out Edinburgh Fringe debut, ‘No Scrubs’, which toured nationally in 2023. His television appearances include Comedy Central LIVE, ITV2’s The Stand Up Sketch Show and Channel 4’s Stand Up To Cancer, while his radio work spans BBC Radio 4, Capital Xtra and Times Radio. Michael has also collaborated with Channel 4 and LadBible UK, producing original sketches for their digital platforms. Alongside his performance work, he continues to contribute as a health commentator, offering clear and engaging perspectives on current medical issues.
Audiences book Michael Akadiri because he offers more than laughs; he delivers insight, empathy and connection. His topics range from resilience in medicine and the realities of NHS life to leadership, wellbeing and diversity in professional environments. Equally comfortable hosting awards, performing corporate comedy or speaking on health panels, Michael brings warmth, intelligence and humour to every event. He is a compelling choice for audiences seeking entertainment with substance, and a reminder that even in the most serious professions, laughter is vital.
