Martin Koehring is a decorated sustainability and environmental strategist, who shared his industry-leading expertise as the Global Director of Impact at Forum for the Future. Lobbying businesses, civil society and governments to accelerate action toward a more sustainable future, Martin continues to drive system change and inspire an alternative narrative for our future. Having formerly worked as Head of the World Ocean Initiative for The Economist and a Managing Editor of The Economist Intelligence Unit, Martin has worked a diverse career, which informs his speeches as a distinguished keynote speaker on topics including biodiversity, business sustainability, becoming net zero, value chains, energy systems and aquaculture.
Before forging his success with Forum for the Future, Martin began his illustrious career working as a Youth Worker for the European Youth Meeting Centre Ysselsteyn and a Trainee of the Political & Economic Section of the Delegation of the EU to Japan at the European Commission. Building a foundational understanding of economics, politics and environmental policies, Martin later went on to become an Economist and Senior Economist on Country Risk Services for Dun & Bradstreet. In 2011, Martin began his almost 12-year career with The Economist, initially appointed as the Europe Editor of Country Analysis for The Economist Intelligence Unit. Progressing on to become Senior Editor of Thought Leadership, Global Health Lead of Thought Leadership and Managing Editor of Thought Leadership for The Economist Intelligence Unit, Martin’s career with The Economist culminated as the Practice Lead of Sustainability, Climate Change and Natural Resources for Economic Impact and Head of the World Ocean Initiative for The Economist.
Today, Martin is also a Trustee and Charity Board Member of the New Economics Foundation. Other prominent roles of Martin’s have included being a Senior Rapporteur of World Water Week, a Faculty Member of the Food & Sustainability Certificate Program of the European Institute of Innovation for Sustainability and an Advisory Committee Member of Global Environment Outlook for Business of the UN Environment Programme. He has also acted as a member of the Thomson Reuters Foundation’s Inclusive Economies Group and the Sustainable Brands Turkey Global Advisory Board. Widely regarded as an authority on sustainability, Martin has also been sought to judge the Reuters Events Responsible Business Awards and the Electric Vehicle Innovation & Excellence Awards.
