Italian Argentine rugby union player Martin Castrogiovanni is best known for playing for the Italian rugby union club Ghial Calvisano. Martin also has history playing for the Leicester Tigers, showing that he is no stranger to the fast-paced change of the sport.
Martin began playing for the Ghial Calvisano in 2001, staying with the team for 5 years until 2006. During his time playing for Ghial Calvisano he was selected to play in the Italian Championships in 2005, which his team won. In 2002 Martin made his debut for the international team of Italy, playing in the tour against the All Blacks. Due to his performance in the tour he is now regularly seen as a player on the national side.
In 2004 Martin was selected to play in the 2004 Six Nations Championships for the Italy national team. In these championships, he played in every game that Italy took part in, and was crowned Man of the Match in Italy’s victory over Scotland. Martin is famously known for scoring a hat trick in the 2004 summer tour playing against Japan, as this is a rarity for the position of prop forward that he plays in. Martin’s next big game for his country was in 2008 when he played at the 2008 Six Nations Championships. At these championships, Martin performed impeccably, and he was Italy’s top try scorer.
In the 2006-07 season, Martin decided to sign a deal with the British Leicester Tigers team. He played a successful season in 2006-07 with them, claiming the title of Guinness Premiership Player of the Season award. In 2011 it was speculated that Martin would be moving to France, but instead, he renewed his contract with the Leicester Tigers. The Tigers were delighted that he renewed his contract, and his fans even more so with them often seen chanting “Castro” as he returned as a firm favourite.
In the 2013-14 season, Martin left the Tigers and signed for Toulon, a French rugby club. He stayed with the club until 2015 until he signed with Racing 92 for the 2015-16 season. Whilst part of the Racing 92 team Martin helped lead the team to the 2016 European Club final, the first for the team.
Outside of his rugby career, Martin is the co-owner of a restaurant situated in Leicester. The restaurant is called Timo, and he has recently opened a new venue in Market Harborough. The venue in Market Harborough is co-owned by his fellow Leicester Tiger player Geordan Murphy.
Given Martin’s decorated history in rugby, he has reputable qualities for rugby speaking. He is able to supply a range of audiences with entertainment through his personal anecdotes and inspiring personal experiences. Suitable for any corporate event or function, and boasting the ability to speak Spanish, Italian, French and English Martin is the perfect addition to your next event.
