Mark Chapman is a British sports presenter who certainly needs no introduction. Set to be the co-lead presenter of BBC’s Match of the Day for the 2025-2026 season, he’s a national icon whose charismatic coverage of some of the most anticipated sporting events never fails to put a smile on audience’s faces. Host of Sports Report – BBC 5 Live’s long-running programme – Match of the Day 2 on BBC One, and Chief Presenter of BBC Sports’ Rugby League World Cup coverage, Mark brings a personality to the screen that the public loves. Chances are that, if you’ve watched any major rugby and football games, Mark’s voice will have punctuated your viewing experience.
Mark’s career began back in 1996. Initially, he was onboarded by the BBC as a continuity announcer for BBC One and BBC Two. However, soon enough, his work would earn him a position as BBC North East Radio’s cricket correspondent. From there, he became BBC Radio 1’s Newsbeat sportsreader, and often worked with the beloved Sara Cox and Scott Mills. Not long after earning his affectionate nickname ‘Chappers’, Mark went on to join BBC Radio 5 Live to host 5 Live Sport, while simultaneously appearing as the main stand-in presenter for Final Score, Match of the Day 2, and various other BBC Sport showcases. Fast forward, Mark’s now presented for The NFL Show, NFL This Week, and the 2017 Rugby League World Cup.
More recently, Mark was offered the opportunity to become the BBC’s primarily presenter for the 2021 Rugby League World Cup, as well as head Sky Sports’ coverage of the Carabao Cup. Partnered with his eagerness to branch out further and become the Non-Executive Director of the Vanarama National League Team and the Chair of the Board for the Manchester Originals Cricket team, Mark has cemented his place in British sports history. However, presentation isn’t Mark’s only standout quality; he’s also passionate about representing various charities. Most notably, he completed the London Marathon for CLIC Sargent in 2008, and again in 2010. Only two years later, he cycled from Land’s End to Jogn o’ Groats to support the Donna Louise Children’s Hospice Trust.
Through and through, Mark is a wonderful man who has used what he has learned throughout his career to make the lives of others a little bit brighter. Whether he’s doing so through beloved sports broadcasts or selfless charity work, he’s constantly uplifting people and spreading positivity.
