A businesswomen, lawyer and television personality, Margaret Mountford is best known for featuring on The Apprentice as one of Lord Sugar’s trusted advisors. A wonderful after dinner speaker who has strong opinions on everything from politics to employing people with tattoos, Margaret is able to captivate audiences during corporate events. Reading law at Cambridge University, Margaret became a fully qualified solicitor and spent over a decade as a lawyer at Herbert Smith Solicitors. During this time, she worked on some of the biggest civil cases in the country and this is where she was first introduced to Lord Sugar. Working on various legal transactions for his businesses’, they developed a friendship and he appointed her as non-executive director of his company Amstrad. She also held the same position at ten pin bowling company Georgica.
In 2005 alongside Nick Hewer she was announced as one of Lord Sugar’s advisors for The Apprentice where entrepreneurs compete for a job with the business magnate. Constantly observing and scrutinising the candidates every move, she was an instant hit with viewers as the show gained popularity. In 2009 she announced that she was stepping down from her advisory role in the programme to concentrate on furthering her education.
Despite this, she still occasionally appears on the programme at the interview stage of the process, leaving no stone unturned as she picked apart the candidate’s CVs. Margaret then enrolled at University College London where she studied for her PhD in Papyrology. She also chairs the Bright Ideas Trust which is an initiative set up by former Apprentice winner Tim Campbell which aims to help young people start up their own business. Due to her popularity on The Apprentice, Margaret has presented numerous documentaries on the BBC on a range of topics including finance, history and business. She has developed a great on screen partnership with fellow Apprentice aide Nick Hewer hosting Celebrity Antiques Road Trip together for the BBC.

"It was great to welcome Margaret to the campus yesterday evening and we were very impressed with her performance. Margaret’s skill in leading the conversation and providing fluent responses to questions was particularly evident. The event turnout was strong, too, with around 150 people in the College Building Quad. Thanks for all your help in preparing for the event." - Tom, Student Engagement Marketing Officer
