Lindsay Peat is an Ireland Women’s Rugby Union International who has a fascinating career spanning football, basketball, and rugby alike. Recognised by the Irish Examiner as one of the Most Influential Women in Irish Sport, she’s a passionate LGBTQ+ rights advocate and ambassador who has consistently excelled in some of sport’s highest levels. Most notably, Lindsay represented Ireland at the 2017 Women’s Rugby World Cup, during which she was awarded the honour of Ireland Women’s Player of the Year. Partnered with her involvement in the Women’s Six Nations, Lindsay has truly become an icon among Irish sportswomen.
This rich sporting career began in 1998, when Lindsay proudly represented the Republic of Ireland’s U-18 national football team during the qualifiers for the 1999 UEFA Women’s U-18 Championship. During this time, she had the chance to play against England, the Netherlands, and Faroe Islands, all while working alongside future Republic of Ireland international icons – namely Yvonne Tracy, Caroline Thorpe, and Michelle Walsh. Since, Lindsay has participated in many Gaelic Football events, specifically three All-Ireland Finals in 2009-2014, the All-Ireland Senior Ladies’ Football Championship in 2010, and the Dublin Ladies Intermediate Championship in 2015.
Meanwhile, Lindsay was scouting other sports, and found herself developing an affinity for basketball and rugby. Though her basketball venture would see her participating in the Basketball Ireland Women’s Superleague and the National Cups of 2010 and 2011, rugby was where she truly made a name for herself. Mere months after taking up the sport, Lindsay made her international debut in 2015. Shortly after, she went on to play for Ireland in the 2016 Women’s Six Nations – an exciting venture that would continue with each following year. Her marvellous multi-sport capabilities make her a standout in the Irish Women’s sporting scene, allowing her to speak out on topics that are both deeply personal and meaningful to her.
Now, Lindsay is one of Ireland’s greatest LGBTQ+ advocates. Having only come out in her 30s, she uses her lived experiences to uplift others battling the same struggles she did during her career. As an ambassador for the 2019 Union Cup, she spreads positive messages to LGBT youths and aspiring players alike, becoming the voice of positivity that she wishes she’d had in the past. Fascinating, talented, and a delight to listen to, Lindsay Peat is a sensational speaker who’ll be sure to leave a lasting impact. Hire Lindsay today to make your event one to remember.
