Lee Byrne is a retired Welsh international rugby player who played in a number of Europe's top leagues. Typically playing at fullback, Byrne was regarded as one of Wales's best fullbacks of the modern era.
His professional career started at Llanelli RFC in 2003, he performed consistently well winning several Man of the Match awards. After two seasons of fantastic, consistent performances, Byrne called up to the Welsh national squad in 2005. He made his debut against the All Blacks and kickstarted his international career. Byrne appeared in the 2006 Six Nations Championship but it was the 2008 competition where he really made an impact on the national side. He was an integral member of Wales's Grand Slam winning squad, as a rugby speaker, Byrne often reflects on winning the Grand Slam and what it meant to him and his teammates.
After two successful seasons with Llanelli, Byrne moved to European giants Scarlets. He made 29 appearances for the club before moving to Ospreys. Byrne continued to play at the highest level of rugby union and competed in some of the most prestigious competitions, he played in the Heineken Cup on a number of occasions. Due to playing for a number of the biggest domestic clubs it meant Byrne was continuously under the spotlight. Byrne made his first domestic move outside of Wales when he signed for French giants Clermont, he played at the French side for three years between 2011 and 2014. Eventually, Byrnes would move to the NG Dragons in 2014 and would make six appearances before announcing his retirement from the game.
As well as being a rugby superstar, Byrne has also published his own autobiography. Throughout the autobiography he discusses his successful domestic and international career.
