
Dr Laura Gilbert CBE leads a distinguished career in the fields of artificial intelligence, technology and science, renowned in her current role as the Senior Director of AI for the Tony Blair Institute for Global Change. Having formerly worked as the Director of the Incubator for Artificial Intelligence at 10 Downing Street, Laura is on a mission to integrate artificial intelligence into public services and generate better economic and wellbeing outcomes for society through the use of AI. Laura’s mastery of STEM began in education, achieving an MSci/BA in Physics at the University of Cambridge, followed by a DPhil in Particle Physics at the University of Oxford. In 2003, Laura became a Lecturer in Physics at the University of Oxford, before she became a Postdoctoral Researcher in Particle Physics and GRID Computing. She later became a Quantitative Analyst for GLC Ltd and a Senior Quantitative Analyst for Man AHL. Roles such as Chief Information Technologist for ResCon and Director of Technique at the Great Britain Savate Federation followed, before she became the Co-Founder of Rutherford Research Limited in 2020. It was also in 2020 that Laura began her decorated tenure at 10 Downing Street, when she was appointed as the Director of Data Science.
In 2023, Laura worked as the Director of the Incubator for Artificial Intelligence at 10 Downing Street, delivering expert AI solutions into public services. Also during her time at 10 Downing Street, Laura was the founding Director of 10DS, the data and analytics team at Downing Street. Such roles built the foundations of her credibility in artificial intelligence adoption, and she was later appointed as the Head of AI for Government at the Ellison Institute of Technology, Oxford. Laura is also a Visiting Professor in Practice at the London School of Economics & Political Science, and is a Fellow of the Institute of Physics and the Institute of Analytics. In honour of her distinguished career, Laura was appointed CBE for Services to Technology and Analysis.
