Kyle Steyn is a key figure in Scottish rugby, as the captain of Glasgow Warriors and a winger for Scotland. As captain, he led the team to the 2024 United Rugby Championship title, becoming the second-ever captain of a Scottish club to lift a trophy. Drawing on his historic professional sports career, Kyle’s story reflects lessons of dedication, ambition and resilience.
Born in South Africa, Kyle started his rugby career with Griquas in the Currie Cup and Rugby Challenge and was named captain of the team for the 2018 season. After moving to the UK because of his mother’s heritage, he joined the Scotland rugby sevens team and the Glasgow Warriors, later named captain of the team in 2022. He has also become a strong performer for Scotland, earning 30 international caps, scoring 15 tries and competing in six HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series tournaments. Building on his leadership, he became Skills Coach for Glasgow Hawks for the 2025/26 season.
Recognised for his consistent performance on the pitch, he was shortlisted for the 2026 Guinness Men's Six Nations Player of the Championship. He also made history during his first start for Scotland, becoming the first men’s player since 1995 and the first at home of Scottish rugby to score 4 tries in one game. Having a strong legacy at Glasgow Warriors, he marked his 100th appearance for the team by lifting the 1872 Cup against Edinburgh. Outside of rugby, Kyle is a keen golf enthusiast and features on the popular YouTube golf series ‘Scrum2Scratch’.
