Krishnan Guru-Murthy is one of the most recognisable faces in the UK with over 35 years of experience as a broadcast journalist. He spent many of these years with Channel 4, having joined in 1998, he is now one of the main anchors and is currently the second-longest-serving presenter for the channel. Throughout his diverse career, Krishnan has presented everything from entertainment to politics, the 2012 Paralympics and 2014 Winter Paralympics to war reports, and has made guest appearances on TV shows such as Never Mind the Buzzcocks and 8 Out Of 10 Cats.
The School’s Mace competition, Krishnan has said, is the reason he got into presenting. Having originally wanted to become a doctor, Krishnan’s career took a turn when he was offered his first presenting job after appearing on BBC2’s Open to Questions, the BBC recognised Krishnan’s talent and offered him a presenting roll for the programme. He subsequently went on to study BA Philosophy, Politics and Economics at Oxford University. Whilst juggling full-time study, Krishnan also presented BBC2’s Asian current affairs programmes: ‘East’ and ‘East Network’.
A naturally gifted presenter, Krishnan brings a certain finesse to his reports and presentations, this talent was recognised by The Royal Television Society Journalism Awards and he was nominated for its News Presenter of the Year Award in 2010 and 2014. As one of Britain’s top political interviewers, he presents much of Channel 4’s special political programming – Ask the Chancellors debate in the 2010 election campaign, How to Save a Hundred Billion Pound and he has covered five British General Elections. Krishnan has fronted several big events such as: the Omagh bombing, 9/11, The Mumbai Attacks, and war reports from Syria, Yemen and Gaza. No topics are off-limits for Krishnan as he has even been involved with Channel 4’s science department and presented shows including: The Operation: Surgery Live, The Autopsy, Britain’s deadliest addictions, Going Cold Turkey, and Strictly Come Dancing, whilst also fronting the podcast ‘Ways to Change the World’.
Not only a revered presenter, Krishnan also founded the Duchenne Dash, a 24 hour bike ride from Paris to London; he is now a patron of the charity Duchenne UK which raises money for medical research, and is also a trustee for the Royal Botanical Gardens Kew. Having met a wide range of activists, musicians, actors, politicians, and having travelled to truly unique and incredible places, Krishnan is able to draw a wealth of knowledge from all of his experiences and is the speaker you need to book today.
