Jonathan Smallman Davies is a renowned mental health advocate who is admired for sharing his journey through recovery and rehabilitation after a life-changing brain injury. Since the age of 20, disability and neurodiversity have played a significant role in both his personal and professional life. Having personally struggled with his own mental health during the transition period after his injury, Jonathan has devoted his career to helping others in a similar situation by working alongside brain injury charities such as The Silverling. Admired for his positive mindset and remarkable mental resilience, he has ensured that his accident will not hinder his success and has now become a popular mental health speaker to attend a wide range of events.
An incredibly driven individual, Jonathan left school after being Head-of-House and multi-sports captain of the school teams to join the army. Working his way up the ranks, his hard work and determination were recognised in 1985 as he became the recipient of the Sword-of-Honour at The Royal Military Academy and was destined to progress to command his regiment in the army. However, after experiencing a life-altering accident, Jonathan’s career plans changed drastically. Met with many years of recovery and rehabilitation, he faced complex physical and neurological challenges but remained positive throughout the entire process. Determined to keep progressing his knowledge and skillset, he studied art during his hospitalisation, and in 1995, he secured a place at Salford University to gain a Media and Performance degree.
In 2001, Jonathan turned his focus towards mental health rehabilitation and began working alongside brain injury charities. Passionate about supporting the community by sharing his experiences navigating the recovery from a brain injury, he began delivering presentations at universities to discuss what it means to live with a brain injury, how to remain positive, and how it has affected his personal and professional life. Alongside his speeches, Jonathan also managed several fundraising events, including the annual Rehab Parliamentary Pancake Race at Westminster. In 2021, Jonathan joined The Silverling Brain Injury Charity and is now working to support their ‘silverlings’ by providing interactions, event management, and fundraising skills.
An inspiration to audiences of all ages and backgrounds, Jonathan Smallman Davies is now highly sought-after to attend speaking engagements internationally. Turning to creative hobbies to focus his mind, he began writing lyrics and songs in 2021 and is passionate that this has helped him recover further. Considered a creative, positive individual who is incredibly thankful for the diverse yet exciting path that a severe brain injury has led him along, Jonathan has become the perfect speaker to inspire and motivate audiences working within a wide range of industries. When looking to captivate audiences at your next event, do not hesitate to hire Jonathan today.
