From the age of 11, Johannes Radebe has been highly passionate about dancing. Currently a Professional Dancer on Strictly Come Dancing, Johannes is a talented dancer and choreographer with a decorated history in entertainment. Winning the hearts of the nation, Johannes is a favourite amongst the professional dancers on Strictly Come Dancing and highly praised by the revered judges – Craig Revel Horwood, Shirley Ballas, Anton Du Beke and Motsi Mabuse. Openly identifying as gay, Johannes frequently raises awareness of the homophobia he has fallen victim to during his lifetime, and the importance of eliminating hate and discrimination within society.
Attending a dance school with his sister as a child, Johannes was first offered dance training when he was just 11 years old. Proving his talent as a dancer, Johannes began competing in renowned competitions, and before long he became a two-time Professional South African Latin Championships winner and three-time Amateur Latin South African Champion. Evident that Johannes was a talented professional, it wasn’t long before he was sought after to appear as a Professional Dancer on South Africa’s version of Strictly Come Dancing, in 2014. He later starred as a Professional Dancer on Dancing With The Stars in 2018, before being announced as a Professional Dancer on Strictly Come Dancing later in the year.
After not being allocated a partner in his first season of Strictly Come Dancing, Johannes took to the dancefloor in series 17 with his partner Catherine Tyldesley, finishing in 11th place. The following year, Johannes was partnered with Caroline Quentin, improving on his finishing place with Catherine, finishing in 8th place. In the 19th series, Johannes made headlines when he was placed in the first male same-sex partnership with John Whaite. Together, Johannes and John broke stereotypes of traditional ballroom dancing, finishing in second place behind Rose Ayling-Ellis and Giovanni Pernice. In his fourth series on the show, Johannes was partnered with comedian Ellie Taylor.
When he is not dancing himself, Johannes can be found sharing his talents as a choreographer, having choreographed the West-End themed ‘Rusical’ on RuPaul’s Drag Race: UK Vs The World. A talented performer and entertainer, Johannes Radebe is the perfect person to hire when looking to entertain guests with a magnificent dance act. Also passionate about representation, Johannes can regularly be found speaking out about racism and homophobia and the importance of eliminating discrimination in society.
