Joe Swift

One of television's most talented garden designers and horticultural presenters, Joe Swift, has been gracing our screens for over two decades. Appearing on popular mainstream media shows like Gardeners’ World and writing for leading publications, Swift’s expert knowledge can be seen across platforms. A popular speaker for unique and informative after dinner speeches Swift is equally in demand as an entertaining host for award ceremonies. As the main presenter and designer of BBC’s Gardeners’ World, Joe Swift has held the position since 1998. The long-standing BBC programme follows Swift as he shares tips, tricks and garden designs with viewers.

Since rising to popularity on the show, he has since appeared on: The Flower Pot Gang, Garden Makers and Small Town Gardens. He is also regularly called on to report live from the RHS Chelsea Garden Show as the co-presenter for the BBC coverage of the prestigious event. Before his media career took off, Joe Swift began working as a landscaper in North London, learning the craft as an aspiring garden designer. With a passion for travel, Swift lived and worked in Australia for a short time continuing as a landscaper and drawing influence from the different environment in the Southern hemisphere.

On returning to the UK Swift gained a professional qualification in gardening at The English Garden school, which gave him the tools to build his own business. Founding Modular in 1990, the landscaping company was Swift’s first venture it’s top class gardening services. A leading expert on all things green thumbed, Joe Swift is a regular contributor to a number of publications. Sharing his wealth of industry and practical knowledge, he writes a weekly column for: The Times, Gardeners World and The Radio Times. He has also published three books with hands-on advice for those tackling their own green space.

Swift’s publications cover all sizes and styles of gardens from ‘Joe’s Allotment’ to ‘Joe’s Urban Garden Handbook’, as he believes outdoor space should work for the individual. Having already spoken at numerous events across the country, Joe is an experienced speaker, able to adapt his content to the occasion. In 2016 he embarked on a speaking tour ‘A Man About The Garden’ which saw him sell out venues across the UK with his behind the scenes look at gardening TV and how he won a Gold Medal at the Chelsea Flower Show 2012.
