Jack is a composer, broadcaster and writer. He is one of the country’s youngest commissioned composers; in his teenage years, Jack composed for the Royal Opera House, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, Royal Philharmonic Society and Classic FM. He has recorded his work with acclaimed international conductors including Sir Antonio Pappano, Vasily Petrenko and Kirill Karabits, and his music had appeared on the BBC and Classic FM.
Alongside classical composition, Jack also enjoys writing popular songs, theatre and jazz. His piece for the Canadian ensemble SymphRONica was performed at the Canada 150 celebrations in Trafalgar Square, as well as at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe and in Toronto. Jack’s song for the Holocaust Educational Trust (HET), ‘One Day’ – written after visiting Auschwitz-Birkenau with the charity – was performed live at the HET Appeal Dinner in 2017, before an esteemed audience including the Home Secretary and Chief Rabbi.
Jack is a Trustee of the DMRC Benevolent Fund, and his song – A Special Place – was premiered at Headley Court’s final ever Beating Retreat Ceremony in July 2018, alongside the Headley Court Choir and The Band of HM Royal Marines. It was subsequently performed at the DMRC Benevolent Fund’s inaugural Gala Dinner at London’s Grosvenor House in October 2018 in front of royalty, senior military officers and corporate guests. The song is dedicated to the patients and staff of the DMRC, past and present.
Jack is a pianist and singer as well as a composer, and has performed in internationally renowned venues including Wembley Arena, Guildford’s G Live and the JFC Jazz Club in St Petersburg.
As part of his efforts to bring classical music to a wider audience, Jack is a presenter on Scala Radio, the UK’s new entertainment-led classical music station; he joins a line-up that includes Simon Mayo, Angellica Bell, Mark Kermode, Anthea Turner and Penny Smith. Joining the station aged just nineteen, Jack became one of the youngest ever national radio presenters in the UK. Jack’s show, The Culture Bunker, explores stories of the people behind great music, every Saturday 3-5pm; his guests have included soprano star Renee Fleming and violinist Nicola Benedetti, and a TONYs Special from New York.
As a writer, Jack has contributed articles on the subject of music education and new audiences to Gramophone, BBC Music Magazine, the Royal Philharmonic Society Blog, JDCMB, The Musical Opinion, Opera Magazine and Opera Today, and is a columnist for the industry-standard publication Classical Music Magazine. He contributed a special tribute to The Daily Mirror following the news of the passing of Andre Previn, and his work has been profiled in The I.
