Iona Stephen is an experienced Presenter for Sky Sports Golf, covering major events including The Masters, The Open Championship and The Solheim Cup. Before her broadcasting career, Iona was a professional golfer whose playing career was cut short due to injury. Iona is a powerful motivational speaker and authentic storyteller about her career in sport, media and presenting.
During her studies in History of Art at the University of St. Andrews, Iona played four sports at junior international level before shifting her focus to golf, playing four years as an amateur, during which she broke three course records. Iona became a professional golfer in 2016 with her debut on the Ladies European Tour at the Qatar Ladies Open. Suffering from a long-term wrist injury, Iona retired from professional golf only 18 months later. Her personality and energy were quickly recognised by golf’s major networks and she soon became Lead Presenter for Golfing World. Alongside her presenting at Sky Sports, Iona did some freelance commentating for BBC Sport at The Masters and the BMW PGA Championship in 2022.
Launching the brand, On the Road with Iona, a YouTube channel and community dedicated to the wonderful stories of places and people inside and outside the game of golf – Iona has also recently launched and co-founded Tuesday Links, a golf and wellness travel company. A testament to her impact in the sport, Iona became the first-ever female on-course commentator in EA Sports gaming history with the release of the game, Road to the Masters. Outside of her golf career, she hosted a weekly radio show on Classic FM in 2024 and is a brand ambassador for Titleist, The R&A and Loch Lomond Whiskies.
Iona is an influential speaker, recently speaking at the headquarters of the DP World Tour for International Women’s Day about her experience as a woman in the golf industry. She is also an experienced event host, having hosted several prize presentations at a variety of marquee golf events, such as the 2023 Ryder Cup and the 2024 DP World Tour Championship.
