Ian Hislop is a comedian, author and broadcaster who is recognised for his work as Captain on BBC’s Have I Got News for You – the only person to feature in every episode of the show. Ian has appeared in several BBC shows such as Who Do You Think You Are?, Room 101 and Who Should We Let In? Ian Hislop on the First Great Immigration Row. Ian's career is filled with entertaining stories that he now shares with audiences as a keynote speaker.
After studying English Literature at Oxford University, Ian was appointed Editor of Private Eye in 1986, taking the magazine to great commercial success. Using humour and a satirical approach, Ian offers social and political commentary through investigative journalism. Published fortnightly, Private Eye has a consistent readership of over 700,000. The magazine is also known for releasing an annual edition that Ian has authored in the past several years. Ian has written excellent plays such as “A Bunch of Amateurs”, “Trial by Laughter”, “The Wipers Times”. Ian also features as a columnist for publications such as The Listener, The Sunday Telegraph and The Spectator.
Over the years, Ian has presented numerous television programmes such as “Not Forgotten”, “School Rules”, “Ian Hislop’s Scouting for Boys”, and “Great Railway Journeys”. Having received commendations for his work throughout his career, Ian was named Print Journalist of the Year by the London Press Club in 2017 and won the BAFTA for Best Light Entertainment. Additionally, he is also a recipient of The Editor’s Editor award by the British Society of Magazine Editors – a great honour.
