Experience sports speaker and one of the most well-known football commentators and TV presenters in the UK Ian Darke is best known as one of Sky Sports 'big four' football pundits and is known for his work alongside Martin Tyler, Alan Parry and Rob Hawthorne.
Beginning his career as a television and radio presenter working for the BBC Ian Darke spent more than a decade as the chief boxing speaker for the Company and spent time covering some of the biggest fights of the 80’s as well as various athletics and football competitions. In 1992 Darke left the Beeb for Sky Sports to commentate on the newly formed FA Premier League.
In his early days as a TV presenter for Sky Sports Darke was known as the lead commentator for Ford Monday Night Football and the replacement commentator for Martin Tyler. His role on Monday Night Football was short lived however and, in 1995 when Sky Sports won the rights to cover the majority of all televised boxing matches, Ian Darke began his role as the group’s go-to boxing speaker and commentator.
Darke continued to work as Sky Sports boxing TV presenter for ten years and was one of the few live commentators to cover the infamous Evander Holyfield vs. Mike Tyson II where Tyson bit off a chunk of Holyfield’s ear.
In 2005 Ian Darke began covering more football tournaments including the UEFA Champions League and Football League. In 2010 Sky lost the rights to cover the FIFA World Cup and subsequently Darke was hired by ESPN to commentate on the games for the American market. Now an international television and radio presenter and personality Ian Darke soon accepted a three year contract to work as a sports speaker for ESPN in the USA commentating on the Premier League, Major League Soccer, the 2013 Confederations Cup and the 2014 FIFA World Cup.
