Hugo Rifkind is most well-known for being an award-winning columnist for The Times since 2005 and as a regular guest on BBC Radio 4’s The News Quiz since 2008 where he utilises his knowledge about the everyday happenings of the world whilst on the topical comedy radio show. When hired as a comedian, Hugo’s risqué style of comedy is always a big hit with his audience as is evident from his frequent appearances on the radio.
Born in Edinburgh, Hugo studied Philosophy at Emmanuel College, Cambridge where he soon discovered his natural ability to write and then began his career as an editorial assistant for Peoplenews.com, a show business website. Hugo soon developed superior writing skills and spent time working as a freelance writer for The Times and the Evening Standard between 2002 and 2005. After gaining quite the critical acclaim, he then became a permanent columnist for The Times in 2005 and took over the gossip column. Now, Hugo writes the weekly opinion column, the weekend TV review and My Week.
It would appear that gossip was Hugo’s calling, recognising his ability to make hot topics entertaining and humorous, just three years later he started his illustrious career behind the mic for The News Quiz. His ability to entertain his audiences on a seemingly mundane topic is second-to-none; making for a great stand-up act. In recognition of his writing ability, Hugo has won numerous awards including Columnist of the Year 2011 and Media and Commentator of the Year both awarded by Editorial Intelligence Comment Awards, Stonewall’s Journalist of the Year, three Comment Awards and both Best of Humour and Critic of the Year Award.
Having led a truly remarkable career, there is no doubt of Hugo’s ability to entertain his audiences, both in writing and over the radio. With his superior ability to speak behind the mic, Hugo began presenting a Saturday morning programme for Times Radio in 2020. Known for his bare-knuckle humour which has been immensely popular throughout his career, if you are after a seasoned entertainer, look no further than Hugo Rifkind to hire at your next event.
