Helen Seymour is the world’s first female Eurofighter Typhoon Pilot, serving in the RAF for over twenty years. She is the co-founder of On A Mission, a platform she runs with former RAF colleague Nicola ‘Rosie’ Steevenson. Through keynotes and training engagements, they share their story of perseverance and speak on leadership, personal growth, and performance under pressure.
With a BSc in Medical Sciences from Queen Mary University London, Helen shifted her focus to becoming an RAF Pilot. Despite failing the aptitude test the first time, her dedication to her goals did not falter, and she passed the test on her second attempt. Starting her career as a front-line Tornado F3 pilot, Helen then transferred to the Typhoon in 2009, becoming its first ever female pilot. She has been involved in the delivery of air defence to the UK, Falkland Islands, and NATO in the Baltic States. Helen served in the liberation of Libya and held the role as Mission Commander in various multi-national exercises across the globe.
She is an A2 Qualified Flying Instructor and Course Mentor on the Typhoon Operational Conversion Unit. Her final role in the RAF before being medically discharged was as an Evaluator Pilot on the Typhoon Test Sqn and was the Lead Pilot for the Typhoon Defensive Aids System. Helen is currently a Training Consultant with a major defence contracting company and recently earned a Level 3 Award in Effective Coaching from ILM, which helps to further the effectiveness of her keynotes with On A Mission.
Helen is a confident, engaging, and influential keynote speaker who can connect to all types of audiences, using her experience of working under pressure to discuss how to function efficiently in high-performance environments. With On A Mission, she and Rosie delivered their keynote ‘Performing Under Pressure’ to Funding Xchange staff, and have more recently carried out 8 other talks to Network Rail employees. On A Mission talks draw from their unique experiences of flying together as one of the few all-female crews, recognising the importance of successfully training individuals to set the foundations for teams to excel. Their keynotes discuss resilience, adapting to change, the importance of inclusivity, and the fear of failure. Helen was also recently selected as an RAFA Ambassador for their Women’s Wellbeing Network 2025 webinars in October 2025.
