Heena Sidhu is a talented sport shooter from India who is setting the standards and making firsts in her sport. With a family history of sport shooting, Heena was inspired to take up the sport and first began shooting back in 2006. She began her shooting career in junior and senior teams, such as playing in the Patiala Club. Also during this time, Heena was studying for a Bachelor of Dental Surgery, and so used the shooting to help her admissions to dental school.
After only three years in the sport, Heena began winning medals for her talents. She claimed her first medal at the 2009 Beijing ISSF World Cup, taking home silver and making her mark in the sport. Before long Heena began to win gold in shooting events, first taking home the win in the 10m air pistol discipline at the National Championship. Heena has also been successful in team events at the sport and has to date won six gold medals, five silver medals and three bronze medals.
Heena has been fortunate to represent her country in her sporting discipline, selected to compete for India at the 2012 London Olympic Games. Taking to the stage at the Olympics, Heena competed in the 10m air pistol event, but unfortunately only placed 12th. She has also competed at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games, at these games placing 14th and 20th in 10-metre air pistol event and the 25-metre pistol event. Heena’s talents have also been seen at the Commonwealth Games, claiming two gold medals and two silver medals. She is also famed for breaking the Commonwealth Games record of 38 in shooting and was conferred the Arjuna Award in 2014.
