Hannah Cockroft is a wheelchair racer with an impressive selection of Gold medals to her name. From World Championships to Paralympic Games, Hannah has gained a reputation as a world-class athlete, beyond disabled competition, and has since become a recognisable face in the media. Appearing on the most prestigious sporting stage in the world, Hannah has competed at multiple Paralympic Games. Across the 100, 200, 400 and 800 meters, Hannah has so far achieved seven Gold medals and shows no signs of slowing down. In the World Championships, since her debut in 2011, Hannah has shown outstanding talent, securing 16 World Champion titles. This achievement makes her the most successful British athlete in athletics World Championship history across the abled and disabled competition. Currently, Hannah holds five World Records in the T34 racing category and four Paralympic records. Most recently, at the 2020 Tokyo Paralympic Games, Hannah claimed Paralympic Gold in the 800m and 100m races. At the 2022 Commonwealth Games, Hannah claimed Gold in the Women's T33-34 100m. At the 2024 Paris Paralympic Games, Hannah added two Gold Paralympic medals to her already impressive medal tally.
Suffering two cardiac arrests as an infant left Hannah with brain-damaged which affected her hips, feet and legs. Hannah often requires a wheelchair which inspired her to take to sports as a teenager. Showing a distinct talent for wheelchair sprinting, Hannah was invited to join the GB Paralympic Team, and began competing in the T34 classification of athletes. Hannah’s story is one of overcoming great challenges to thrive and carve her own path, which in turn provides inspiration for others to face adversity head-on.
Hannah’s vibrant personality has led her to be a guest on shows such as ‘The Great British Bake Off’, ‘The Crystal Maze’, and ‘Sport Relief Does Strictly Come Dancing’, where she won alongside her partner Pasha Pashkov. In 2019, she presented several features for ‘BBC Countryfile’ and recently reported live on the FA Disability Cup for TNT Sport. She made history in 2013 as the first Paralympian nominated for the Sports Personality of the Year award outside a Paralympic year. In 2016, Hannah became the youngest Deputy Lieutenant of West Yorkshire. In 2017, she was the first para-athlete named British Sportswoman of the Year by the Sports Journalist Association in its 57-year history. Additionally, in 2021, Hannah was named the 2021 Disability Sportswoman of the Year by The Sunday Times and Sky Sports.
