Hamza Yassin is a talented wildlife photographer, conservationist and ornithologist, whose warm and personable character is set to make him the next biggest star of the nature television genre. Making headlines as the winner of Strictly Come Dancing 2022, Hamza has soared in popularity, with his stint on the hit BBC dancing show making him a firm favourite amongst the British public. Born in Sudan, Hamza moved to Northampton when he was eight. Diagnosed with Dyslexia, Hamza was supported during his studies but nonetheless went on to achieve a degree in Zoology with Conservation at Bangor University. Furthering his education, Hamza studied for a Master's degree in Biological Photography at the University of Nottingham, where he found both his passion and talent for nature photography. Aged 21, Hamza made the decision to move to Scotland, developing his career as an environmentalist and conservationist studying the local wildlife. Since moving to Scotland, Hamza has been the presenter of Scotland: My Life in the Wild and Scotland: Escape to the Wilderness for Channel 4. He has also worked with Jesse Wilkinson to produce film inserts for Springwatch 2015, narrated by Sir David Attenborough, and produced promotional videos for the 25th Anniversary of the Bird Fair in Rutland.
Having forged a respectable career as a wildlife photographer, Hamza has also presented Let’s Go For A Walk and Ranger Hamza’s Eco Quest for CBeebies, renowned for his warm and happy personality as a children’s presenter. He has also made guest appearances on The One Show, Countryfile and This Morning, sharing his passions for the environment and his talents as a cameraman. Hamza has also worked on Animal Park for the BBC, following the lives of the animals and the keepers at the infamous Longleat Safari Park. Most recently, in 2022, Hamza was announced as a competitor on the 20th series of Strictly Come Dancing. Paired with Jowita Pryzstal, Hamza quickly became a fan favourite, impressing the judges with his newfound talent as a dancer – reaching the finals to be crowned winner of Strictly Come Dancing 2022.
