Glenn McCrory is a former boxing legend and now regularly commentates on the sport. McCrory made his professional debut in February 1984, achieving a first-round knockout against his opponent, Barry Ellis. Over the following 15 months, McCrory fought an impressive 12 times, winning on each occasion, before suffering his first defeat in September 1985.
This defeat was to be the start of a series of losses for McCrory as he went on to lose the next four out of five fights. However, this losing run soon came to an end when a visit to Louisville, Kentucky saw him grab success and get back to winning ways. The win against Joe Adams in Kentucky provided the springboard for a run of form which would take him first to the Commonwealth Cruiserweight title and then to the British title. After four straight victories, Glenn McCrory then had the chance to fight Zambian Chisanda Mutti, the reigning Commonwealth champion.
Grabbing this opportunity with both hands, McCrory won the match to take the Commonwealth Cruiserweight title. In January 1988, McCrory successfully defended his title against Tee Jay. Successfully defending his honour, McCrory then picked up the British Belt as well as the Commonwealth Cruiserweight title.
After picking up the British & Commonwealth title, McCrory went on to win the vacant World Cruiserweight Title with a unanimous points decision against Patrick Lumumba, and in doing so became the North-East of England's first-ever World Boxing Champion. He also worked as Mike Tyson's chief sparring partner, completing 96 rounds during his heyday in 1987 -88.
