Gina Battye is a trailblazer in the realm of workplace psychological safety, spearheading transformative change through her role as Founder and CEO of the Psychological Safety Institute. Her career trajectory has established her as a captivating speaker, acclaimed author of ‘The Authentic Organization: How to Create a Psychologically Safe Workplace’ - a finalist for the Business Book Awards - and a relentless advocate for cultivating psychologically safe work environments.
Gina's journey began unconventionally, as she fearlessly navigated the challenges of working with some of the most dangerous criminals in Northern England. In 2004, she was stalked by a dangerous man. However, it was in her next role in a Further Education college where Gina experienced first-hand the detrimental effects of workplace homophobia from her manager. As a member of the LGBTQ+ community, Gina navigated the pressures and challenges that being LGBTQ+ in the workplace can bring. When she reported the bullying to HR, they told her not to progress the case because it would highlight her sexual orientation to her colleagues and peers. The manager was promoted.
These experiences ignited Gina’s commitment to cultivating psychologically safe workplaces, leading her to develop the world-renowned 5 Pillars of Psychological Safety. Through the 5 Pillars and the Hierarchy of Psychological Safety, Gina has revolutionised the way organisations approach inclusion, belonging and culture. Her innovative methodologies have been embraced by multinational corporations around the globe, earning her recognition as a visionary leader in the field.
Gina is a tireless thought leader, known for delivering compelling talks that not only educate but drive meaningful action. With first-hand experience in frontline roles within probation services and education, she shares powerful, deeply personal stories from some of the toughest workplace environments - where she personally faced stalking, homophobic bullying and gaslighting. These experiences underpin her mission to champion true inclusion and cultural change across industries.
At the Psychological Safety Institute, Gina and her team are dedicated to challenging and transforming outdated workplace cultures, advocating for psychological safety to be integrated into workplace legislation worldwide. The Institute’s methodologies, including the 5 Pillars and the cutting-edge diagnostic tool Lux, are widely recognised for cultivating thriving, inclusive environments. In collaboration with the University of Cambridge Judge Business School, the Institute leverages elite social science expertise to diagnose and resolve complex workplace issues.
In 2024, Gina published her acclaimed book ‘The Authentic Organization’, where she outlines how large businesses can embed psychological safety at scale. She has also developed CPD-accredited training programmes that empower individuals and leaders alike to transform organisations from within. Her strategic consultancy work with global brands continues to drive sustainable change and raise the bar for workplace culture.
Backed by a Speaker of the Year award, a global audience of over 10 million, and a history of sold-out programmes, Gina’s influence spans continents. Through widespread media coverage and prominent speaking engagements, she inspires individuals to embrace their authentic selves, creating a ripple effect that transforms entire workplaces. Partnering with Gina is not just about a keynote - it’s a catalyst for lasting change, authentic leadership and organisational excellence.
