Garry Kasparov is a globally recognised chess legend, author and Russian pro-democracy leader. Founder of the United Civil Front, Garry has been a fervent advocate for human rights, vehemently speaking against the regime in Russia. A child prodigy, Garry became an under-18 Chess Champion of the USSR at the nascent age of 12. From then he established his prominence as a savant of the chess world, winning titles such as World Under 20 champion, soon becoming the youngest world chess champion in history at only 22. Having defended his title five times, the records he set in the world of chess remained unbeaten till 2013. This is an amazing feat, seeing as Garry retired from professional chess in 2005.
Garry transitioned from a prominent chess player to a strong voice against the Russian regime, specifically Vladimir Putin. Founder of the United Civil Front, he has mobilised masses to raise their voice against the repressive methods of the government. He has been elected to the Coordinating Council of the United Opposition Movement and was also named Chairman of the Human Rights Foundation. Though he moved to the U.S. in 2012, Garry’s advocacy has never stopped. In 2022 he delivered the moving TED talk “Stand with Ukraine & Fight Against Evil”, about the humanitarian atrocities committed by the Russian regime.
