Francis Fukuyama is a world-renowned political scientist, who is currently a dedicated Olivier Nomellini Senior Fellow at Stanford University’s Freeman Spogli Institute for International Studies. Having dedicated his career to exploring a range of issues related to international politics, Francis has also enjoyed time working with the US Department of State and shared his expertise as a world-class author. After completing his studies of a BA in Classics from Cornell University and a PhD in Political Science from Harvard University, Francis began working in 1979 for the RAND Corporation global policy think tank. As a member of the Political Science Department of the RAND Corporation, Francis began to build his astute knowledge of political science, and later went on to become Policy Planning Staff for the US Department of State. Francis then joined the education sector, becoming the Omer L. and Nancy Hirst Professor of Public Policy at the George Mason University School of Public Policy in 1996. He later went on to become the Bernard L. Schwartz Professor of International Political Economy at the Johns Hopkins University Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced International Studies.
Other prominent roles of Francis’ have included serving on the President’s Council on Bioethics, as the Mosbacher Director of FSI’s Center on Democracy, Development and the Rule of Law, as a Founding Board Member of The American Interest, as a Member of the American Political Science Association, as a Member of the Council on Foreign Relations and as a Member of the Pacific Council for International Affairs. When not acting as a board member, Francis can be found researching international political economy, nation building, democratisation and more, which he shares in his bestselling books. Most recently, in 2022, Francis authored Liberalism and Its Discontents, and he has also published the bestselling titles The End of History and the Last Man, The Origins of Political Order and Identity: The Demand for Dignity and the Politics of Resentment.
