Don Goodman has enjoyed a successful career as a professional footballer, playing as a striker for teams such as Bradford City, West Bromwich Albion and Sunderland. Making an impressive 586 Football League appearances, Don scored a respectable 162 goals before his retirement in 2003. Following his retirement, Don has become a stalwart football commentator and is regularly featured in prominent media coverage. Aside from his TV punditry, Don is also highly sought after as a keynote speaker or event host for corporate events.
A highly respected footballer, Don began his illustrious career with Bradford City, enduring trials with the team as a teenager before making his senior debut in 1984. With his first team, Don iconically scored a hat-trick within 7 minutes of taking to the pitch in an FA Cup game, which set the tone for the rest of his decorated time with Bradford City – culminating in 70 league appearances and 14 goals. He was later signed to play for West Bromwich Albion, making an impressive 158 league appearances and scoring 60 goals. Success continued to follow wherever Don went, later signed to Sunderland, scoring 40 goals in 116 league appearances. Other successes of Don’s include playing for the Wolverhampton Wanderers, capped 125 times and scoring 33 goals, and for teams such as Motherwell and Walsall.
Upon retiring from professional football in 2003, following a loan season with Doncaster Rovers and time with the Stafford Rangers, Don has since committed his time to being the Company Director of GFi Training and a Football Commentator for Sky Sports. GFi Training was created by Don and Matt Ford, fulfilling Don’s commitment to health and fitness. Together, they have forged the GFi Training empire, delivering health and fitness qualifications. When not aiding in the running of GFi Training or broadcasting on Sky Sports, Don can be found contributing to various media outlets on topical issues – such as being interviewed by the EFL for Black History Month, starring on the Million Views Mental Health Challenge for Men’s Mental Health Awareness Month or on the Undr The Cosh podcast discussing his recovery from the Bradford City fire disaster and his experience of racism as a professional footballer.
Now hired as a speaker and event host for corporate events, Don Goodman is a sought-after figure, not only sharing anecdotes from his decorated career, but also using his prominence to bring awareness to topical issues. Don has advocated for increased action against racism, speaking to an array of media outlets such as The Mirror, Sky Sports, the Irish Mirror and the Express & Star on the matter. If you are looking for a decorated footballer who can not only share the highlights of their sporting career, but also share powerful anecdotes on personal hardship, hire Don Goodman today!
