Former Warwickshire and England Cricketer, Dennis Amiss was a prolific right-handed batsman throughout his career before retiring in 1987. Not wanting to stay out of Cricket for an extended period of time, after retirement he undertook a role with the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) as a team selector. He also spent time as the chairman of the Cricket Committee for Warwickshire, where he later became the chief executive after David Heath's departure. His achievements during his time playing professional cricket ensure he is in constant demand as a cricket speaker, delivering talks as an after-dinner speaker at events and conferences.
Throughout his career in cricket, Dennis frequently impressed fans and press alike. With a prolific scoring history, he is a firm favourite to this day. He has some impressive averages with 42.86 in first class, 35.06 in List-A, 47.72 in One Day Internationals and 46.30 in Tests. Whilst playing first-class cricket, David scored an astounding 102 centuries. Additionally, whilst playing for England, he collected an impressive 50 Tests which ranks him the best that England has produced. Making his test debut in 1966 Amiss forged a prolific career as a Test batsman, scoring 3,612 runs during a successful career.
During this time he made 11 centuries, including two double centuries against the West Indies. Known as a perfectionist, Dennis Amiss was well known for constantly looking for improvements within his teams and own performances- an attribute which sets him apart from any ordinary cricketer. David was also a talented One Day Internationals batsman, with an impressive score of 859 runs. During One Day Internationals, David scored four centuries and one half-century with his top score of 137 being against India.
This score is still England's second-highest Cricket World Cup individual score, placing this as a prominent victory for Dennis. Amiss is one of very few to have scored a century on both his debut and his last match within ODI cricket. His impressive career has drawn in much attention to his availability as an after-dinner speaker, with his attendance at events and conferences as a sports speaker proving to be the biggest draw. Amiss is a model professional having played his entire career avoiding controversy and much of the talk which can surround the professional sport. An eloquent and fluent after dinner speaker with the ability to engross the audience, Dennis Amiss is undoubtedly the ideal addition to any event.
