
Deborah Haynes is an inspirational journalist covering the biggest stories from all over the world. Currently working as the Defence Editor at Sky News, Deborah has over two decades of experience covering conflict around the globe. Having reported from front-line positions as Ukrainian forces fight back, she strives to bring depth and insight to some of the toughest international stories, making them accessible to the public.
After completing a degree in Law and Japanese from the University of Cardiff, Deborah began her career as a Producer at the UK Bureau of Tokyo in 1999. Fluent in Japanese and French, she moved to Japan in 2001 to work as an Economics Editor for Agence France-Presse, followed by moving to Geneva, Baghdad and London. In 2007, she began working as the Iraq Correspondent for The Times Newspaper, before becoming the first woman in any national UK newspaper to serve as the Defence Editor.
Deborah joined Sky News in 2018 as a Foreign Affairs Editor, followed by a Defence Editor. Reporting on national security, defence policy and foreign affairs, she covers a range of issues from cyber-threats to the frontline of war zones. In addition to her reporting work, she wrote and presented multiple podcast series, including ‘The Wargame’ and ‘Into The Grey Zone’, where she continues to make key information on national security accessible to all.
Deborah’s investigative career has earned significant recognition as her work on Iraqi interpreters won the UK Amnesty International Media Award in 2008 and the Inaugural Bevins Prize for investigative journalism. Additionally, she has also received an honorary degree from the University of Salford for her inspirational contributions to journalism. Deborah has become a trusted voice for audiences across the globe seeking clarity and information.
