Dean Stott is a former Special Forces Soldier, who served as part of the Special Boat Service until his retirement in 2011. Being born into a military family, Dean travelled the world and joined the Armed Forces as a commando before progressing to become a commando training course instructor and then a member of the Special Forces. After an injury, Dean has pursued a career in private security and claimed two World Records for his impressive cycling feat. Now also booked as a speaker and event host covering topics such as learning to adapt to change, planning for positive outcomes and taking on the seemingly impossible.
Joining the Armed Forces in 1995, Dean proved to be a dedicated and impressive soldier. Beginning as a commando, Dean progressed through the ranks to become a commando instructor and a member of the Special Boat Service. One of the first soldiers who passed selection into the SBS, Dean’s career saw him experience some of the most hostile environments known to man. Unfortunately, in 2011, Dean suffered a knee injury during a parachute accident and after 16 years of service was forced to retire. During his service, Dean dealt with all manner of problems from pirates and kidnapping to extortion and military coups. He is also well known for evacuating the Canadian Embassy, during which he rescued 18 military members and four diplomats.
After his retirement, Dean went into private security and specialised in everything from evacuation planning to client protection and risk mitigation. In 2016, Dean decided it was time for a challenge and began training to complete a gruelling 14,000 cycle from Argentina to Alaska on The Pan American Highway. Completing this impressive feat in 99 days, 12 hours and 56 minutes two years later, Dean became the only person to complete this feat in under 100 days and claimed two World Records- the fastest person to cycle the length of South America and the fastest cycle journey of The Pan American Highway. Passing through an incredible 14 countries on his journey, Dean rode through a tornado and spent on average 10 hours a day on his bike. Using the impeccable mental resilience he honed in the military, Dean continues to live by the Special Forces motto of ‘The Unrelenting Pursuit of Excellence’.
Having learnt how to adapt to change, Dean is now a popular choice as a speaker for corporate events. Not your typical battle-scarred former military personnel, Dean started from scratch once his military career ended, adapting to the change of civilian life. Dean has also raised money for and supported charity Heads Together, passionate after his own battles with mental health. Having experienced first-hand what it feels like to experience fear, pain and pressure, Dean draws on military experiences that translate into everyday life. Whether he is delivering a formal speech, Q&A or hosting an event, Dean tailors his speeches to suit the needs of each and every client. Covering topics such as teamwork, leadership, adventure, exploration, taking on the seemingly impossible, planning for positive outcomes and learning to adapt to change, Dean Stott is a highly motivational speaker who will have your audience speaking about the event for weeks to come.
