According to technology speaker David McCandless, Information is Beautiful – which explains why he gave this name to the business that he set up with the mission to “distil the world’s data, information and knowledge into beautiful, interesting and, above all, useful visualisations, infographics and diagrams”.
Describing himself as an independent data journalist and information designer, David says that his big passion is “visualising information”, which includes ideas, facts, subjects, data, questions, statistics and issues.
The technology speaker believes that designed information helps people to “understand the world, cut through BS and reveal the hidden connections, patterns and stories underneath”. His work on information design has even appeared in such art galleries as the Tate Modern, the Wellcome Trust gallery and the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
A well-known writer and author – his best-selling book is also called Information is Beautiful – David McCandless has produced words for Wired, Die Zeit, PC Zone, Your Sinclair, The Guardian and several other publications and websites. Indeed, he began his career writing about video games while at the same time hacking into them!
