David Carroll is an associate professor of media design at Parsons School of Design at The New School and former Director of the MFA Design and Technology graduate programme at the School of Art, Media and Technology at Parsons the New School for Design. He is best known for when he took Cambridge Analytica and related companies to UK courts and legally challenged them to recapture his 2016 voter profile using European data protection law. David has appeared on Netflix in The Great Hack and his data request has also made appearances in The Guardian, Motherboard, WIRED, The Boston review, Mother Jones, Slate and the wider international press. David's passion surrounds digital media and in particular mobile devices so his research and pedagogy focuses on the theory of software and interaction design as social engagement.
His work spans multiple sectors from art, design and education to sciences, humanities and policy among both private and public interest enterprises. Following his extensive knowledge into these topics he founded the Centre for Mobile Creativity to support research grants such as MacArthur Foundation, NSF, Pearson Foundation, NIH/NIDA and Nokia Research Centers. However prior to becoming a professor David held a huge role directing commercial multimedia for major interactive media clients, he did this between 2000 and 2007.
Some of the media clients include Warner Bros, Sony, AOL, FOX, ESPN, Sports Illustrated, CNN and many others. Now David sits on Adobes Partner by Design advisory board while also serving as the New School's agent for the Apple University iPhone Developer Program. David has a huge amount of speaking experience due to the nature of his career he has presented all around the world at the likes of Adobe MAX in Los Angeles, Synthetic Times in Beijing to FIGMENT Festival in New York and MUM the eighth international conference on Mobile and Ubiquitous Multimedia in Cambridge. When at corporate events David is an extremely insightful keynote speaker who knowledge exceeds many. He can cover a variety of subjects and topics making him a very broad speaker.
His specialities are design and technology, digital disruption and innovation he also has a deep knowledge on cybersecurity, hacking and media and business.
