Danny Cipriani is a British rugby speaker and player who began his Premiership career at the infamous London team, the Wasps. Now playing for the Sale Sharks, Cipriani is known for his high profile media presence, particularly on social media, and involvement with a variety of charitable and advertising campaigns. Born in London Cipriani’s mother undertook the Knowledge in order to pay for Danny to have a private education; a student of the elite Wimbledon prep school Donhead, Danny Cipriani went on to attend the prestigious Oratory School and the Whitgift School where he became well-known for his sporting prowess.
Although now working as a dedicated rugby speaker and player Danny Cipriani spent much of his youth playing junior league football, first for the London team Queens Park Rangers, later being invited to join the youth team at Reading. His career as a youth sports speaker also included playing squash at a county level and an invitation to join Surrey County Cricket Club. Cipriani began playing club rugby at Rosslyn Park RFC whilst still a teenager and it was here that he discovered his passion for the sport. Danny Cipriani joined the Wasp’s Academy aged 16 and played his debut game against Bristol in December 2004.
Holding the fly-half position Cipriani played for both the Wasps U21 and A teams before graduating to the First Team in 2007. Whilst at Wasps Cipriani was a popular sports speaker at club functions and after dinner speaker events, he remained with the club until 2010, when he left to work as a sports speaker in Australia, playing Super Rugby for the Melbourne Rebels.
Danny Cipriani has appeared as a rugby player on the international stage on numerous occasions, captaining the England Under-16’s Cipriani’s work as an after dinner speaker details his experience playing alongside (and against) some of the biggest names in international rugby. He appeared in the Under 19 World Cup and was part of the winning Saxon’s side in the Churchill Cup in 2007. He made his debut for the England squad in March 2008 and was most recently called upon to appear in the 2015 Six Nations squad. Outside his work as a rugby speaker Danny Cipriani frequently appears in tabloid headlines, notorious as somewhat of a party animal Cipriani is often pictured outside pubs and nightclubs. In 2014 Cipriani was hit by a bus following a multi-venue pub crawl in Leeds.
Danny Cipriani is an animal rights activist and appeared in PETA’s anti-fur campaign, Ink not Skin, in which he appeared shirtless showing off his tattoos.
