Connie Fisher is a celebrated Welsh vocalist known for her portrayal of Maria von Trapp in the stage version of The Sound of Music, following her win of BBC One’s talent contest, How Do You Solve a Problem Like Maria?. She has also since taken on a series of presenting roles, including that on BBC’s Songs of Praise. As a speaker, Connie shares her personal stories from the world of music theatre, from her resoundingly impressive career to her struggles with her vocal cords and overcoming them to sing once more, as explored in her 2015 documentary, Connie Fisher: I’ll Sing Once More.
Connie discovered her passion for performing at a young age as a member of a Welsh-language choir. As a teenager, she joined the National Youth Music Theatre and caught the musical theatre bug, going on to achieve a musical theatre degree from the Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts. It was in 2006 that Connie won How Do You Solve a Problem Like Maria?, subsequently playing the lead role of Maria in The Sound of Music. She released her debut album, Favourite Things in the same year, which she followed up with Secret Love in 2009. In between those releases, 2007 was a busy year as she starred in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s segment of the Concert for Diana at London’s Wembley Stadium, appeared at Bryn Terfel's Faenol Festival, and sang Somewhere on the 50th anniversary studio recording of West Side Story.
She also won accolades including the lastminute.com People’s Choice Theatre Award for Favourite Theatre Actress and the whatsonstage.com Theatregoers Choice Award for London Newcomer of the Year. 2008 saw Connie co-star in a revival of the musical, They’re Playing Our Song at the Menier Chocolate Factory, and a year later, resume the role of Maria in The Sound of Music UK tour. In 2009, she branched out into TV presenting with the Scottish lifestyle show, The Hour, followed by Songs of Praise and BBC Cardiff Singer of the World competition in 2011. In 2012, she joined the cast of BBC’s Casualty, before playing Ruth in the UK tour revival of Wonderful Town. In 2013, she became development producer at TV production company, Avanti Media, and in 2018 became a judge on the panel of Junior Eurovision: Chwilio am Seren.
Connie's career has been a fruitful one, and it hasn’t come without its adversity. She takes her lived experiences to deliver inspiring talks that really do leave a lasting impression on her audiences. You won’t want to miss hiring Connie Fisher for your next event!
