Calum Clunie is a Scottish presenter and gardening expert. In 2023, he founded Clunie and Simpson Gardening, through which he has provided expert horticultural guidance to a wide range of clients. Alongside his work in gardening, Calum is an established keynote speaker, regularly delivering engaging talks and insights on gardening and horticulture to clubs, societies, and community groups. He is also available as a guest speaker, MC, and event host, bringing experience in television presenting and voice-over work to a variety of live and broadcast engagements.
Calum was diagnosed at a young age with dyslexia, though it brings daily struggles. He sees himself as one of the lucky ones to be diagnosed so early and to become part of the Dore programme, while also having great support from some Teachers and, most importantly, his family. Calum hopes that by sharing his story, it will inspire other dyslexics that yes, it has its disadvantages, but how can you turn it into an advantage and overcome the bullies, the challenges and make everyone understand dyslexia more, and you can and will do something with your life. But also having a determined mindset, His success comes not from education, but from the people in his life, his enthusiasm, drive and work ethic. Playing and coaching sports when Calum was younger was a good outlet, and he later went on to become the former Head Rugby Coach for a local high school. These days, he is a leisure sportsman playing golf and watching his beloved Dundee United. Laughter and smiling play an important part in Calum's life, and he brings this to his work. One of Calum's biggest qualities is that he is just himself.
At just thirteen years old, Calum entered his first flower and vegetable show and was recognised for his "Tangerine Dream" carrots. From there, he became a Champion grower at Local, Regional and National Championships. He later went on to found his very own gardening company in 2023. With his genuine passion for horticulture, Calum was scouted by Gwyneth Hardy and eventually became the youngest ever presenter of The BBC Beechgrove Garden. With more than one hundred television appearances to date, he welcomes viewers into his allotment to share his knowledge of plants, flowers, and vegetables, offering practical tips, expert advice, and gardening inspiration. Calum is also the lead presenter of 'Beechgrove Mucking In', an hour-long special broadcast on BBC One.
With extensive on-screen presenting experience and a strong background working closely alongside producers and directors, Calum has developed a confident, professional and highly engaging presenting style. Comfortable both following scripts and interacting naturally with live audiences, he brings a light-hearted energy to every event! Whether hosting, speaking, or serving as the MC, Calum's natural ability to connect with audiences of all sizes makes him an ideal choice for live events, panel discussions, awards ceremonies, and horticultural shows.
